Hyperform Inc. Manufacturing History
The groundwork for Hyperform was laid in 1984 with the creation of Wilson Fins, a small company manufacturing fiberglass surfboard and sailboard fins. Based in Rockledge, FL, brothers Kurt and Jim Wilson hand-laminated specialty fins and went on to dominate the fin industry. Using manufacturing techniques refined through fin production, the company also produced select composite parts for some small aircraft builders and other local companies.
With the success of Wilson Fins, Hyperform was incorporated in 1988. With innovation and forward thinking steering the business, Hyperform began experimenting with closed-cell EVA foam as a non-skid decking solution before creating X-TRAK, a line of traction pads designed specifically for the performance surfing industry.
X-TRAK progressed to become the leader of its market segment, and concurrently developed K-GRIP, a private label line of pads designed for eleven-time world champion surfer Kelly Slater. In addition to traction pads, the company produced other products for the surfing industry, including leashes and surf wax, solidifying their stance as a major supplier for the market. With the maturation and growth of X-TRAK, Hyperform was poised on the leading edge of EVA technologies, and many industry-first manufacturing processes were pioneered as a result.
After these advancements with EVA foam, it became evident that market potential existed for their products in the marine industry, where non-skid materials were needed for slick decks and platforms on moving surfaces. After extensive research and design, SeaDek Marine Products was launched in 2002 as an alternative to fiberglass molded-in non-skid and painted on textures.
SeaDek brought new options to the marine decking industry, such as multi-color laminations, the “faux-teak” pattern, and the introduction of the brushed EVA texture. Many leading OEM boat builders began turning to SeaDek as a factory-installed non-skid option for their new models, and unprecedented consumer acceptance placed the company on the forefront of the marine decking industry, and established SeaDek as the premier brand for quality and innovation.
In 2014, the rapid growth of SeaDek led to Hyperform purchasing a new 72,000 square foot manufacturing facility to meet demand, and dramatically increased its production capabilities. The following year, the principal owners of SeaDek extended ownership to over eighty full-time employees through the implementation of an Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP) to further encourage the entrepreneurial spirit that drove Hyperform since its beginnings.
Again seeing potential in other markets, Hyperform created SwimDek in 2016 to offer its superior line of EVA non-skid products to the pool and spa market. Not long after its launch, SwimDek began doing business with some of the largest hot tub and swim spa manufactures in the world, providing luxurious non-skid products to enhance the pool and spa experience.
Today Hyperform continues its tradition of innovation and quality manufacturing. Always on the leading edge of progress, Hyperform remains committed to constantly improving its processes, bringing new and useful products to market, and providing exceptional customer service.
